Free municipal wifi in particular has been a major disappointment. But that isn't stopping Israel-based startup Jungo Ltd. It thinks that it can help some service providers succeed where others have failed.

And the rollout of ultrafast next-generation broadband access networks (such as fiber or VDSL2) carrying triple-play services is focusing a lot of attention on this new adjunct to the digital home. The Home Gateway Initiative (HGI) industry standards group defines a home gateway as 'a device that acts as a hub between the home environment and the broadband network. Network infrastructure semiconductor solutions provider Mindspeed Technologies has partnered with solutions developer Jungo to develop broadband home router platforms for fiber access network operators.The company said that it is integrating Jungo's OpenRG software with its Comcerto 100 broadband gateway processors to develop a high performance, gigabit Ethernet and voice-over-IP (VoIP) platform. The company added that the new solution has been selected by JStream Technologies for their broadband gateway and home router designs.
