Jungo Professional Services: WHQL Testing and Submission

WHQL Submission Package Preperation

Overview

Jungo's professional services unit is pleased to offer a complete Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) submission package preparation service for WinDriver and DriverCore users.

Device and driver testing is an integral part of any development process. In order to ensure compatibility with its products Microsoft has devised the WHQL driver signature certification. This process is part of Microsoft's attempt to support compliance amongst 3rd party drivers and devices that are installed on Windows based operating systems. The standardization system encourages vendors develop drivers which are compatible with windows and reduce conflicts when installed.

Why Sign with WHQL?

WHQL is a universal driver signature certification developed by Microsoft as part of its Windows Logo Program (WLP). There are several benefits to signing drivers with Microsoft WHQL program:

  • Certified drivers are not subjected to user warnings during installations (silent installation)
  • Drivers may be distributed via Microsoft's Windows Update services
  • Inclusion in Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility List
  • Higher QA standards
  • Superior end-user experience and overall satisfaction

Jungo's prepared submission package includes all of Microsoft's requisites for certification approval. Once approved, devices and drivers can claim support for Microsoft Windows operating systems via 'Microsoft Windows Compatible' logos and are included in Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility list. In addition, WHQL tested drivers may be distributed through Microsoft's Windows Update service.

The Certification Process

Devices submitted to Jungo for WHQL testing undergo a rigorous testing process. The testing procedure is conducted within a test environment specifically configured according to WHQL specifications. Jungo's engineers run a series of tests on the device and drivers according to the WHQL requirements, these include:

  • Common Scenario Stress with IO
  • Device Path Exerciser
  • Disable Enable with IO
  • Plug and Play Driver Test
  • Prefast for Drivers Test
  • Sleep Stress with IO
  • Run INF Test against a single INF

Once all required tests are successfully completed, the WHQL submission package is prepared by Jungo and delivered to the client, the client must then submit the package to Microsoft. Since Jungo is not the owner of the devices we can not submit the package to Microsoft directly.
