Jungo Introduces Support for the ARM7TDMI Core for Low-Cost DSL Modems and Routers
OpenRG running on the ARM7TDMI microprocessor delivers a cost-effective, high-performance Linux-based solution for the residential gateway market
Sunnyvale, Calif., March 27, 2002 - Jungo Software Technologies, a leading provider of residential gateway software and technologies, today announced the availability of OpenRG support for the ARM7TDMI® microprocessor core. Jungo provides a comprehensive, feature-rich software platform that incorporates advanced system management functions to simplify the installation, management and network configuration functions associated with gateway products. Jungo's OpenRG is a stable, robust and fully-tested Linux-based solution that has been tailored to run on the ARM7TDMI core, which does not feature a Memory Management Unit (MMU). Jungo also provides a complete embedded development environment for smooth implementation of residential and small office/home office (SOHO) gateway applications running on the ARM7TDMI core. The ARM7 family core-based solution is suitable for supporting low cost DSL modems and routers. Support for the ARM9 family cores is planned for the end of second quarter 2002. "Jungo is working to establish a complete solution for networking applications based around the ARMŽ architecture," said Bruce Beckloff, segment manager, Networking, ARM. "This will enable OEMs to integrate ARM cores quickly and efficiently into a residential gateway solution." The ARM7 processor family offers a range of low-power 32-bit RISC microprocessor cores optimized for cost and power-sensitive consumer applications. More specifically, the ARM7TDMI core offers up to 130MIPs and enables 32-bit performance at 8/16-bit system architecture, which is especially important in residential gateway applications where tight code density, coupled with low-power consumption, and small die size are of paramount importance. OpenRG running over the ARM7 family of cores further extends Jungo's solution offerings, which translates as ever more flexible low-cost solutions. Eyal Yoskovitz, Product Marketing Manager for Jungo stated, "By offering a fully integrated solution incorporating the industry-leading ARM7TDMI processor, Jungo has extended its cross-platform Residential Gateway solution capabilities, and now supports all of the leading processor families." He added, "It is our intention to lead the residential gateway market by delivering the most comprehensive and scalable solutions to meet the growing and diverse demands of the broadband market."
