CableHome 1.1 is here. Now how can MSOs manage the solution?
CableHome 1.1 defines the management protocols required to extend additional broadband services such as Firewall protection, to residential broadband customers. The challenge facing cable MSOs today is how to roll out complete CO and CPE systems, which can manage and deploy CableHome 1.1 services. Attendees at the recent CableLabs Winter Conference witnessed the first integrated CableHome 1.1-based network management and residential gateway system, demonstrated by Jungo and Core Networks. The integrated system combines Jungo's CableHome 1.1-based OpenRG software with Core Networks' CoreEnsemble intelligent home-network management solution. By deploying the combined systems, cable MSOs are able to provide their subscribers with managed home networking solutions and other broadband services, creating additional revenue streams with reduced costs of implementation and support. Print server technologies become prevalent in new SOHO gateway designs
OEMs/ODMs are better meeting the needs of small businesses and connected homes, with an all-in-one platform combining OpenRG's print server, file server, wireless LAN security, firewall and VPN. The print server is the latest application to be added to OpenRG and makes printer installation and administration simpler for end-users. Built-in hot-plug support automatically detects the printer when it is connected to a network and OpenRG's user-friendly, graphical web-based management allows users to manage multiple simultaneous print jobs and determine the printer status for troubleshooting. Jungo's print server module supports the LPD protocol and Microsoft Printer Sharing for easy installation on Windows® 95/98/2000/XP.
