Technology: New Exciting Features in OpenRG/OpenSMB v4.5: Media Server, IPTV Functionality, VoIP and IP-PBX Additions and More Jungo has recently released OpenRG/OpenSMB v4.5, which enhances Jungo’s market-leading OpenRG/OpenSMB product offerings with the features and hardware platforms required for developing cutting edge residential, SOHO and SMB gateways.

Main additions to V4.5 include Media Server that is a managed UPnP AV Media Server implementation, which enables OEMs to integrate Media Server function to their OpenRG-based gateways. Service Providers can now deploy OpenRG-based gateways, enabling home users to use content anywhere in the home. End-users can watch video, listen to music and view pictures via any UPnP AV client, including the TV (through a STB, a PC or a Media Player).

IPTV functionality additions: IGMPv3 enhancements for hardware switches and multiple WAN interfaces. Enhanced QoS and routing optimizations for dumb switches and Wireless LANs.

Market Insight: The 451 Market Insight Service Reports About Jungo's Acquisition "Market Development: Jungo expands into market for service delivery software, finds a buyer"

The 451 take (on Jungo's acquisition): Service providers have typically been dropping in a server from a partner (or using a hosted service) to offer new antivirus, storage or game download services, but this causes integration headaches and takes up rack space.

Jungo.net aims to speed new service creation and delivery by easing those issues, something we believe will be appealing to tier two and three service providers.

Now, as a part of NDS, Jungo's software has an interesting opportunity to be an integral part of service delivery to mobile networks as well as wireline IP networks. And of course, NDS can ensure that residential gateway and set-top (where NDS is a strong player) cooperate, and ease the way for new interactive services on the TV as well.
