TMT Chooses Jungo's CableHome-Based Software for Coaxial Home Networking and MDU/MTU Access Systems
Jungo's OpenRG Residential Gateway Software Now Integrated into DSL, Cable, Wireless and Coaxial Home Networking Gateways
San Jose, Calif., April 8, 2003 - Jungo® Software Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of residential gateway software, today announced that TMT Ltd. has chosen OpenRG, Jungo's CableHome-based residential gateway software suite, to power HomeRAN and CableRAN, TMT's coaxial networking systems for homes and Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs) / Multi-Tenant Units (MTUs). The HomeRAN and CableRAN systems both consist of a gateway and numerous outlets, which together utilize existing coaxial TV infrastructure to provide broadband home/MDU/MTU networking. The gateways convert Ethernet to coax and therefore provide an interface between any broadband access device (cable modem, DSL, ISDN, STB, fiber terminal, etc.) and a coaxial infrastructure. The outlets, which are distributed throughout the home/MDU/MTU, replace ordinary TV sockets with Ethernet and USB sockets and transform the coaxial TV infrastructure into an IP network. By integrating OpenRG into the HomeRAN and CableRAN coaxial networking systems, TMT was able to develop CableHome-based systems and benefit from a choice of broadband applications, an optimized Linux operating system, communication protocol stacks and remote management capabilities. In addition, by using Jungo software tailored for Intel's development platform, TMT was able to smoothly port their design onto an Intel(R) IXP425 network processor, and as a result reduce their Bill of Materials (BOM) and software costs prior to production. "The availability of OpenRG on the Intel IXP425 network processor allows broadband CPE manufacturers like TMT to rapidly bring to market gateways that are feature-rich and easy to design," said Nick Finamore, general manager Intel Network Processor Division. Commenting on his company's choice of residential gateway software, David Cohen, CEO of TMT, said: "By integrating OpenRG into HomeRAN and CableRAN, we were able to bring to market a CableHome-based solution and achieve significant cost-reduction. In addition, due to the remote management and upgrade capabilities in OpenRG, we will be able to provide our customers with a future-proof solution to which additional features can be added with market demand." OpenRG's range of broadband applications includes a Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall certified by ICSA Labs, a division of TruSecure Corporation, Virtual Private Networking (VPN), Universal Plug and Play networking, remote management (web and SNMP based) and remote upgrade capabilities. "TMT's solution allows service providers to maximize existing coaxial infrastructure and generate new revenues from managed home networking services, without having to undertake large infrastructure investments," said Udi Yuhjtman, VP business development at Jungo. "We look forward to seeing TMT's systems deployed to provide broadband users with an easy-to-install home and MDU/MTU networking solution."
