Universal Plug and Play Module for Residential and SOHO Gateways
As more UPnP network devices are introduced, UPnP-enabled residential/SOHO
gateways will undoubtedly capture a greater market share.
Jungo (a member of the UPnP Forum), has therefore developed a Universal Plug and Play software module for residential and SOHO gateways. The module allows broadband customer premise equipment (CPE) manufacturers to design gateways that can be smoothly installed on a network with UPnP-enabled devices, without requiring users to configure any single device, or the gateway itself.
Jungo's Universal Plug and Play software module for residential and SOHO gateways
With Jungo's Universal Plug and Play module installed in a residential/SOHO gateway,
a UPnP-enabled device can dynamically join the network, obtain an IP address and exchange information about its capabilities with other devices on the network. In addition, the module’s support for NAT Traversal enables network-aware applications to automatically detect that they are behind an Internet Gateway Device (IGD) and configure the gateway's port mappings to forward packets from the external port of the NAT to the internal port used by the application. Jungo's Universal Plug and Play module is available as:
CPE manufacturers that choose to integrate the module as part of OpenRG also benefit from Jungo's additional zero-configuration software components that ensure a complete "plug and play" home networking experience for broadband users. Universal Plug and Play is designed to ease networking in homes and small offices by ensuring compatibility between multi-vendor networking equipment, software and peripherals. The Universal Plug and Play standard enables any two UPnP-enabled devices to seamlessly connect and communicate with each other over an IP network, under the command of any control device on the same network. Key Features
Screen 1: In Microsoft Windows XP, the OpenRG gateway together with UPnP-enabled LAN PCs and network devices are automatically displayed in the “My Network Places” window. Clicking on the OpenRG gateway icon automatically opens OpenRG’s web-based management in the user’s browser. Screen 2: Microsoft Windows XP allows the user to configure the gateway port settings through a Windows interface. |
