Z-Com Selects Jungo’s OpenRG Software for 802.11g

Over a Million Units to be Deployed During Next 18 Months

San Jose, Calif., April 22, 2003

Jungo® Software Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of residential gateway software, today announced that Z-Com, a Taiwan-based wireless networking solution provider for top-tier OEMs, has selected Jungo’s OpenRG™ residential gateway software to power the company’s new 802.11g wireless access-point product. Retail sales of the product have already commenced and over one million units of Z-Com’s new access point are expected to be deployed through retail and enterprise channels during the next 18 months.

The new 802.11g access point will allow broadband users to share an Internet connection among their PCs, laptops, wireless PDAs and other devices within the home or small office / home office (SOHO), via a secure wireless network supporting speeds of up to 54Mbps. The 802.11g standard uses the 2.4 GHz band ensuring backward compatibility with the 802.11b standard, which powers the majority of wireless LANs used today.

Jungo’s OpenRG, which provides the Linux-based software core for the access point, is a complete set of software technologies that provides broadband customer premise equipment (CPE) vendors with the infrastructure needed to bring residential and SOHO gateways to market faster.

“As the 802.11g market emerges, it is critical for us to follow a very aggressive development schedule, to deliver robust and feature-rich access points to our customers,” said Dr. John Shieh, CEO of Z-Com. “By choosing to incorporate OpenRG as the software core of our product, we were able to cut back development time and significantly boost the performance of our device.”

OpenRG includes an operating system, communication protocols, routing, network security and remote management capabilities. In addition, OpenRG combines a set of highly integrated applications and services required for the home and small office, such as home networking (wireless LAN – 802.11a/b/g, HomePNA™, HomePlug, coax), a Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall certified by ICSA Labs (a division of TruSecure Cooperation), Virtual Private Networking (VPN), remote management (web and SNMP based) and remote upgrade capabilities.

“By adding a wireless access point product to our list of design wins, Jungo is proving its ability to power a wider range of broadband CPE, including DSL and cable modems, CableHome™-based devices and stand-alone gateways,” said Udi Yuhjtman, vice president of business development at Jungo. “Z-Com is one of the leading wireless ODMs in Taiwan and we look forward to working with them to bring additional designs to market in the near future.”
