Prognosys Medical Systems is a leading provider of high quality solutions and services in Healthcare. Prognosys develops solutions of international standard and quality for hospitals, medical clinics, medical device manufacturers and government projects by understanding the needs of their customers and developing customized solutions to suit them best.
Prognosys' products include the "REM - ICU Monitoring" a complete remote ICU monitoring solution, allowing intensivists and critical care specialists to improve patient care significantly by overcoming geographic barriers. REM - ICU provides the communication bridge between ICU's at remote locations and the professional medical teams located in specialty care hospitals around the globe.
The REM-ICU transmits the critical vital signs in real time using any available network communication means including wireless, broadband, LAN/WAN and other communication technologies. The REM-ICU can be deployed over various network types including the web, medical intranets and others.
Prognosys chose to use WinDriver USB based driver as the foundation for controlling the ICUs through the custom software application provided with the REM - ICU. The application includes advanced data presentation formats, computerized decision support and alarms. These features enhance efficiency, increase effectiveness, and standardize the clinical and operating processes.
Prognosys used WinDriver USB development toolkit as they needed a quick and reliable solution to interface standard medical equipment over USB. "We were able to get the USB Data along with the sample program in place within thirty Minutes" said Suresh Vedagiri, Technical Director at Prognosys Medical Systems.
"We were thrilled that it worked the first time without any problems and were delighted that we did not take the DDK approach that would have probably required more time and resources. Our requirements from the driver were to retrieve the data from the ICU Monitors or the Multiplexers via the USB, analyze the data and forward to the central data center."
The use of Rem-ICU technology allows health care professionals to remotely monitor the patient's vital signs, observe the patient's monitoring sensors, set and monitor alert thresholds and initiate actions proactively. The patient monitoring devices are connected via the USB bus to a central data station. Multiplexers allow the connection of multiple ICU monitors of up to 16 patient beds to a single central data center. Using this centralized architecture allows the medical team to control and monitor the system from a single station.
