Story Highlights
Rapid Automation Design, a leading embedded software and hardware design consultant based in Florida, USA, needed PCI drivers for the peripheral devices that interconnect with its TS-series industrial embedded processor platform. After weighing the logistics and costs of designing its own PCI drivers, Rapid Automation Design decided to use Jungo's PCI WinDriver solution.

Jungo's WinDriver automates and simplifies the development of user mode device drivers and applications for USB / PCI / PCI Express / CardBus/ PCI-X / and CompactPCI under all Windows versions, Linux, Solaris and VxWorks

Solution
Rapid Automation Design's TS-series industrial embedded processor platform provides a ruggedized Compact PCI chassis, featuring an embedded processor card running Windows XP. The compact PCI bus is utilized for peripheral interconnects in several expansion slots.

"We considered the development costs associated with designing PCI drivers for each peripheral," said John Davis, Lead Hardware/Software Engineer at Rapid Automation Design.

"In the end, we decided that Jungo's WinDriver would save us both cost and schedule. After working through the hardware and software integration, it not only brought our project to completion under budget and ahead of schedule, but provided us with a powerful debugging tool to integrate our custom peripherals into the system. We were connected to our low level registers within minutes of installing the product. That task alone could have taken days of software development."
