Learn how WinDriver optimized performance and significantly enhanced time to market for SP Devices
Achievement
Signal Processing Devices AB, a leading provider of signal processing technology for analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion, used WinDriver from Jungo to develop an ultra-fast driver for its high-speed and deep resolution data acquisition product line.

Critical Contribution
WinDriver from Jungo was used to optimize performance and significantly enhance time to market.

We Provided
WinDriver from Jungo was chosen by SP Devices as its PCI Express driver development toolkit for two main reasons:
  • It is a rapid development tool, capable of maximizing hardware throughput while maintaining user-level simplicity.
  • Samples for the Virtex 5 FPGA are provided, reducing development time even further.
Interfacing with the ADQ line's controlling application, ADCCapture Lab, was immediate and freed up valuable resources needed elsewhere.

Result
"It took me about ten minutes to communicate with our new Xilinx FPGA-based device," says Peter Johansson, software engineer at SP Devices. "DMA functionally was a straight-forward process, due to Jungo's helpful manual and its user level API's."

"We also used WinDriver's unique kernel plug-in feature, enabling us to take both a user-level approach and a kernel-level one for handling interrupts. That helped us meet our latency demands, a mandatory requirement by many real-time applications".

About WinDriver
Jungo's WinDriver™ automates and simplifies the development of user-mode device drivers and applications for USB / PCI / PCI Express / CardBus / PCMCIA / PCI-X / and CompactPCI under Windows 8 / Windows 7 / Vista / Server 2008 / Server 2003 / XP / XP Embedded, and Linux. WinDriver provides a complete solution for creating high performance drivers and custom hardware access applications, thereby enabling device manufacturers to focus on their driver's added-value functionality, instead of on operating system internals and the DDK. Enhanced Built-in support is available for Actel, Altera, Atmel, Cypress, National Semiconductor, PLDA, PLX, Microchip, Netchip, QuickLogic, Silicon Laboratories, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Xilinx.
