GE Healthcare France develops the “Gitane” – an interface board, based on Altera’s FGPA, containing customized I/O and communication resources and software modules that were developed with Microsoft’s Visual C++ 6.0.
GE Healthcare ships Gitane to medical devices manufacturers, who use the Windows 2000 application with the WinDriver APIs to communicate with the device for extensive quality tests of the board functionally under production. Jungo’s WinDriver PCI for windows simplified GE Healthcare’s whole process of writing the driver and communicating with their hardware while maintaining user-mode simplicity. Using WinDriver, they brought their product to market faster, leaving driver development efforts behind.
“We were looking for a driver to allow access to the board’s resources for a Windows 2000-based software. Having no intention to develop the driver in-house, we then searched the web and found Jungo’s solution.” Said Yann Casteignau, Principal Engineer, Digital Hardware Design at GE Healthcare. “After downloading the 30 days evaluation version, we soon realized this was the perfect solution for our project. Using WinDriver we easily accessed our board’s basic registers (8, 16, 32 bits single accesses). The ease of use and the fact that no former driver skills were needed, was our main incentives to license WinDriver and use it for the successful delivery of our project.”
