Now, CompactPCI hardware vendors can ship their
"HotSwappable" devices on Windows, Linux, Solaris, and
VxWorks platforms, where these capabilities were previously
unavailable.
April 10th, 2000 (KRFTech, Israel): KRFTech Ltd.
announced today the Beta version release of a revolutionary
operating system extension and driver development toolkit
which enable HotSwap capabilities on most major operating
systems. These tools enable hardware vendors to implement
the CompactPCI "Hot-Swap" capabilities on Windows 9x ,
NT,2000, CE, Linux, Solaris and VxWorks
operating systems. KRFTech's Hot-Swap tools enables
implementing Hot-Swap capabilities, for CompactPCI
hardware, in just a few hours and require no kernel mode
programming or operating system knowledge.
What is CompactPCI "Hot-Swap"?
The CompactPCI is a high performance bus based on the
standard PCI electrical specification, which includes the
"Hot-Swap" facility, which allows insertion and removal of
CompactPCI cards into a platform, while the system is
running. This reduces the system downtime, which may be
critical in areas such as the communication infrastructure
market.
The Problem
Since most major operating systems (Such as Windows and
Solaris) do not include "Hot-Swap" capabilities,
implementing HotSwap requires vendors to use proprietary
operating systems. This situation forces vendors to waste
time and resources on learning new operating systems, and
to use outdated tools.
The Solution:
KRFTech introduces two solutions that enable "Hot-Swap"
capabilities on most major platforms (Including Windows,
Linux and Solaris):
- HotSwap OS extension - The Hot-Swap
Agent, once installed, enables CompactPCI HotSwap
capabilities without changing the existing PCI driver.
- HotSwap Driver Development Kit - The
WinDriver for CompactPCI (also available for ISA /
PCI / USB ) enables driver developers to easily
create a fully operational CompactPCI "Hot-Swappable"
device driver within several hours from scratch.
Both of these tools provide CompactPCI "Hot-Swap"
capabilities on most major operating systems, where these
capabilities were previously unavailable.
"KRFTech's new solutions enable new markets for hardware
vendors who currently cannot offer 'HotSwap' capabilities
to their customers" said Ofer Vilenski, president of
KRFTech. "These solutions also open up new markets for the
operating system vendors, who can now offer 'HotSwap'
support on their operating systems, thereby enabling them
to enter the mission-critical markets such as the
communication infrastructure market."
Benefits:
- Immediate Hot-Swap capabilities - Within just a
few hours you can enable Hot-Swap capabilities for Windows
9x/NT/2000/CE, Linux, Solaris, VxWorks
and OS/2.
- Multi OS support - Same "Hot-Swap" driver
written with WinDriver runs on Windows 9x/NT/2000/CE/NT
Embedded, VxWorks, Linux, Solaris, and OS/2.
- Technical support - Two months of free
technical support from the R&D experts at KRFTech.
