Now, CompactPCI hardware vendors can ship their "HotSwappable"
devices on Windows platforms.
New Orleans, Louisiana - April 25, 2000: Jungo Ltd. (formerly KRFTech)
announced today the upcoming release of a revolutionary Windows operating
system extension and driver development toolkit that enables HotSwap support
on Windows platforms. These tools enable hardware vendors to implement the
CompactPCI "Hot-Swap" capabilities on Windows CE 3.0, Windows NT Embedded 4.0,
Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 9.X operating systems.
The CompactPCI is a high performance bus based on the standard PCI electrical
specification, which includes the "Hot-Swap" facility that allows insertion and
removal of CompactPCI cards into a platform, while the system is running. This
reduces the system downtime, which may be critical in areas such as the
communication infrastructure market.
Up until today, implementing HotSwap required the use of proprietary
operating systems.
Jungo introduces two solutions that enable HotSwap capabilities to CompactPCI cards on Windows CE 3.0,
Windows NT Embedded 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 9X
platforms:
- HotSwap Driver Development Kit -"WinDriver for CompactPCI"
(also available for ISA / PCI / USB ) enables driver developers to
easily create a fully operational CompactPCI "Hot-Swappable" device driver
within several hours from scratch.
- HotSwap OS extension -The "Hot-Swap Agent", once installed, enables
CompactPCI HotSwap capabilities without changing the existing PCI
driver.
Both of these tools provide CompactPCI "Hot-Swap" capabilities on Windows,
where these capabilities were previously unsupported.
"The collaboration between Microsoft and Jungo enables both companies to
offer the Windows environment to vendors who need the 'HotSwap' capabilities
to develop their mission critical hardware." said Ofer Vilenski, president
of Jungo Ltd.
The support in Windows CE 3.0 and Windows NT Embedded 4.0 enables vendors to
penetrate the rapidly expanding embedded marketplace.
"Emerging Internet devices require high performance reliability and
seamless integration with the Web that Windows CE 3.0 and Windows NT Embedded
4.0 provide," said Bill Veghte, vice president of the Embedded and
Appliance Group at Microsoft Corp.
"We look forward to continuing to deliver
embedded platforms and tools to enable Jungo to provide innovative capabilities
and development toolkits."
Availability:
A free full-featured evaluation version of the Hot-Swap Tools will be
available for download from the Jungo web site at www.jungo.com/dnload.html. The
release version of the Hot-Swap Tools is expected on May-2000.
