Adds USB support and Linux / Solaris support to the leading driver development
environment.
January 30th, 2000 (KRFTech, Israel): KRFTech announced the release of
WinDriver and KernelDriver Version 4.3. In the newly released version, both driver
toolkits are now fully integrated into one development environment - the DriverWizard -
which provides a full solution to driver developers on Windows (98, NT, 2000,
Embedded), Windows CE, Linux and Solaris. Version 4.3 features major new advancements,
including full USB support in WinDriver and in KernelDriver, KernelDriver support for
Linux, KernelDriver support for Windows 98 and Kernel PlugIn support for Linux and
Solaris. (Some features priced separately).
USB Support on WinDriver and KernelDriver:
WinDriver and KernelDriver now both support USB. USB hardware and software developers
can now use DriverWizard to diagnose any USB based device without writing a USB driver.
After diagnosing the hardware DriverWizard is used to automatically generate the USB
driver code. No DDK/WDM or OS knowledge is needed. Developers can now develop and debug
their USB driver in the user-mode, and later 'drop' the performance critical sections of
the code into the Kernel, using WinDriver's unique "Kernel PlugIn", thus achieving
optimal performance. For full kernel mode USB drivers, (Such as USB NDIS drivers, USB
filter drivers, etc), developers may use KernelDriver USB.
KernelDriver support for Linux:
The new KernelDriver support for Linux enables KRFTech to provide its users with
complete driver solutions for the Linux operating system. Linux users can now choose
WinDriver for creating quick hardware access applications, or can choose KernelDriver for
creating full kernel mode drivers. WinDriver and KernelDriver both feature the
DriverWizard which assists in diagnosing the hardware, generating the source code, and
debugging the driver.
"KRFTech has recognized the growing need for strong driver support in the various
Linux flavors, and is proud to be the first vendor offering full driver development
solutions for Linux." said Ofer Vilenski, president of KRFTech. "Using our toolkits,
hardware vendors can now quickly provide drivers on this increasingly popular platform,
as well as on all of our other supported platforms, thereby increasing their product's
marketability".
KernelDriver support for Windows 98:
Using the DriverWizard, users of KRFTech's
products can now easily generate Windows 98 device drivers (VxD) for their
hardware. The DriverWizard generates a full Windows 98 kernel mode driver, with
specific APIs to access the user's specific hardware devices and resources. This new
support cuts down tremendously on the knowledge and time needed to write Windows 98
drivers today. KernelDriver for Windows 98 broadens KRFTech's wide operating system
support even further.
WinDriver Kernel PlugIn support for Linux and Solaris:
With version 4.3, KRFTech has added "Kernel PlugIn" support for Linux and Solaris. This
new feature enables Linux and Solaris developers achieve optimal performance using
WinDriver. The "Kernel PlugIn" is a unique architectural design, which enables WinDriver
users to develop and debug driver code in the user-mode (Ring 3), and later drop only its
performance critical parts down to run in the kernel mode (Ring 0) for optimal
performance.
WinDriver and KernelDriver 4.3 also include GUI enhancements and other features which
now make driver development with WinDriver even simpler. For a full list of features, see

Availability:
A free full featured, 30 day evaluation of WinDriver 4.30 is available for download from
the KRFTech web site at http://www.krftech.com/dnload.html. WinDriver 4.30 may be
purchased from KRFTech directly, or through one of KRFTech's worldwide resellers.
