The USB Market - A Growing Trend
Dear Developer, The Jungo Connectivity Software Newsletter keeps you updated with information on driver development, embedded USB software stacks and wide range of USB testing tools. In this issue:
The USB Market - A Growing Trend
With over 3 billion devices using standard USB connectivity, USB has emerged as the de-facto
standard for connecting host PCs and USB peripherals. Revolutionizing the PC world,
USB host capabilities have by now migrated to the embedded arena penetrating Set-Top Boxes,
Mobile Phones, Digital Cameras and Medical Devices.
The USB seamless, high speed, driver-less interface has enabled these embedded hosts to communicate directly with peripherals such as flash memory applications, HID devices and portable electronic equipment. In the near future as OTG (the latest USB specification) is adopted, USB devices will interconnect allowing unprecedented connectivity and mobility options. Jungo's USBware offers a complete USB solution including host, device and OTG software protocol stacks.

WinDriver 8.0 Sneak Preview - Mass Storage Support for Microchip Devices
WinDriver USB Device facilitates the development of the USB protocol chapter 9 firmware for 8-bit USB devices based on the Cypress EZ-USB FX2LP, Microchip PIC18F4550, Philips PDIUSBD12 and Silicon Laboratories C8051F320 development boards.
WinDriver USB Device version 8.0, scheduled to be released next month, will in addition include mass storage class support for the Microchip PIC18F4550 development board. This feature will enable automatic generation of firmware code, which not only covers chapter 9 of the USB protocol, but is also compliant with the Mass Storage specifications, allowing engineers to easily incorporate standard USB mass storage connectivity within their designs. The automatic implementation also includes support for removable media, double buffering and optimized data transfer performance. Availability: February 2006, with the release of WinDriver 8.0. For more information - visit our WinDriver USB Device page.
For 16/32 bit USB protocol stacks - see the
USBware product line.

Why Wireless USB Expects to Win the UWB Fight (by P. Judge, Techworld)
Whoever makes the wireless replacement for USB is onto a big thing: USB 2.0 is the most successful interface in history, included in 500 million PCs, and expected to be in five billion devices by 2007/2008. Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a radio technology that could replace all those USB cables. It offers up to 1 Gigabit/s (with current implementations normally at 480 Mbit/s) over distances of a few feet.
