Kontron Communications Inc. Chooses Jungo GO-HotSwap as Hot Swap Software Infrastructure for its Multi-Processing CompactPCI SystemsJungo GO-HotSwap software enables Kontron Communication's IPTalky technology to be fully Hot Swap capable Sunnyvale, Calif., Sept 26th, 2001 - Kontron Communications Inc., the wholly-owned operating company of Kontron Embedded Computers (Neuer Markt: KBC) and Jungo Software Technologies Inc. (www.jungo.com.) today announced that Kontron Communications Inc. will bundle Jungo's CompactPCI Hot Swap software - GO-HotSwap - with its IPTalky based multi-processing systems. This will enable Kontron Communications' customers to immediately implement CompactPCI Hot Swap under Linux, Solaris, VxWorks 5.4 and Windows 98, NT, 2000. Kontron Communications' robust scalable multi-processing systems use Kontron Communications' IPTalky technology (IP on CompactPCI bus). IPTalky is a communication path that supports advanced communication protocols for multiple processor systems. It emulates a network interface card (NIC) and enables any type of point-to-point standard Ethernet communication across a CompactPCI backplane, thereby doing away with Ethernet cables. IPTalky technology provides a significant bandwidth advantage maximizing point-to-point transaction rates by up to 300Mbits/s, close to three times the bandwidth of Ethernet transaction rates. Full Ethernet communication emulation requires the ability to Hot Swap the processor boards. Such Hot Swap capabilities must be implemented both at the hardware and software level. Jungo GO-HotSwap provides Kontron Communications' multi-processing systems with the required software support to enable Hot Swap, thereby allowing Hot Swapping of the Kontron Communications' slave CPU boards GO-HotSwap is a PICMG compliant, cross platform, software infrastructure for CompactPCI Hot Swap. It enables Hot Swap events detection, dynamic resource allocation, re-enumeration and automatic initiation of software connection/disconnection processes. GO-HotSwap provides an intuitive API and a configuration manager to enable existing drivers to be Hot Swap aware. Should new drivers need to be developed from scratch, GO-HotSwap also includes powerful driver development tools, which simplify the complicated task of driver development. "GO-HotSwap fits well with our CompactPCI technology as it provides an off-the-shelf solution for multiple operating systems," said Jan-Philippe de Broeck, CompactPCI product manager from Kontron Communications Inc. "CompactPCI open standards allow Jungo and Kontron Communications Inc. to deliver the required building blocks to help OEMs meet their fast time-to-market and competitive price performance requirements with a choice of operating systems to satisfy their needs." "Our technological advantage in the Hot Swap software market has enabled us to provide a cross-platform CompactPCI Hot Swap solution," said Amir Inbar, marketing director at Jungo. "Together with Kontron Communications Inc., we are able to provide cutting edge technology for the telecom, datacom and Internet-related systems markets, where minimizing system downtime takes on as much importance as maximizing bandwidth."
