Intel® IXP225 DSL Reference Platform using Jungo's OpenRG software offers fast, seamless development of broadband-based home and business applications

Sunnyvale, Calif., February 25, 2002Jungo Software Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of residential gateway software, today announced availability of its OpenRG software to speed development of integrated access devices (IAD), bridges, routers, and residential and small-office gateways based on Intel® IXP225 DSL Reference Platform. Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC) has designed a reference platform which, when running the Jungo software, provides system vendors and service providers with a "turnkey" solution to cost-effectively develop and deploy their broadband access products quickly.

"Jungo's OpenRG software provides equipment makers an option to help reduce costs and time in developing a wide variety of communications solutions for homes and offices on the Intel® IXP225 Network Processor," said Doug Davis, general manager of Intel's Network Processing Division.

Intel's reference platform, which is based on the Intel® IXP225 Network Processor, is an open-system, software-and-hardware solution for DSL-based IADs and gateways. Jungo's OpenRG's interoperable and intelligent residential gateway software enables OEMs to cut costs and reduce development time of gateways and applications, and to offer compelling product differentiation through competitive consumer technologies.

"The residential gateway market will closely mirror the expansion of broadband entertainment and data services into residential settings", stated Michael Greeson, Senior Analyst for Emerging Residential Technologies at Park Associates. "Given the growing demand for broadband in many parts of the world (most notably Asia, the United States, and Europe), it is our belief that the global RG market will top $6 billion by 2005. Within the U.S., in particular, we anticipate that more than 30 million RGs will find their way into homes by 2005."

"Jungo has worked with Intel to develop software that works in conjunction with Intel's reference platform to create a customized and highly integrated vertical solution for the CPE-market segment," stated Ofer Vilenski, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jungo Software Technologies.

The software includes an operating system, drivers, networking software and applications to meet the cost, power, and feature requirements of the CPE-market segment. OpenRG not only requires zero configuration, but its ease of use and installation helps reduce truck rolls. OpenRG includes remote management and control interfaces that benefit the service provider as well as the end user. Revenue-generating applications and services include Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), Virtual Private Network (VPN), Internet Sharing and Application Level Gateway support (such as H323 and PPTP).

The OpenRG software includes:

  • Small footprint Linux OS
  • ATM support: PPP over ATM (PPPoA), PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE), Multiprotocol Encapsulation over AAL5
  • DHCP Server and Client
  • Network Address and Port Translation (NAPT)
  • Security Suite:
    • Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI)
    • User authentication
    • Internet Access Control
    • Parental Control
  • Supports multiple PPTP clients from a single IP address using NAPT
  • Auto learning DNS
  • Local and Remote Web based interface
  • SNMP support
  • Remote Software Upgrade
  • System Statistic and Monitoring:
