SOHOware Selects Jungo's OpenRG as Software Platform for Its Next Generation of Home Networking Solutions
OpenRG Will Run the CableHome 1.0-Compliant Broadband Multimedia Gateway
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 24, 2002SOHOware Inc. will incorporate Jungo Software Technologies' OpenRG software platform in its next generation of residential and SOHO networking solutions, the two companies announced today.
OpenRG will be optimized to SOHOware's broadband multimedia gateway (BMG), which is being developed and built around Intel XScale technology, according to Yong Ho Son, SOHOware vice president of technology.
The forthcoming BMG integrates today's isolated broadband connectivity functions into the next generation of application-driven networks that support data, voice and multimedia capabilities in compliance with CableLabs(R) CableHome(TM) 1.0 specifications for interfacing home networking equipment to cable operator systems.
Jungo's OpenRG provides essential residential gateway elements, including device drivers, a small-footprint embedded Linux operating system, networking and management software, and a set of high-integrated applications and services required for the home, including voice and security software, according to Udi Yuhjtman, vice president of operations and business development at Jungo.
OpenRG, which is CableHome 1.0-compliant, also provides a robust development environment and open APIs for customization of services to each target market.
"We are bringing together best-of-class products to create the kind of end-to-end architecture essential to driving home networks into mainstream markets by meeting the requirements of broadband service providers and subscribers alike," Son said.
"OpenRG is an excellent platform for providing seamless interoperability with cable services and expandability for delivering emerging applications to subscribers in a wide range of choices."
OpenRG will also support SOHOware's suite of local and remote network management software that reduce life-cycle costs of customer care from initial subscriber acquisition to service provisioning to remote trouble-shooting and expansion of income-generating services, Son added.
