Jungo Releases OpenRG v3.0 Residential/SOHO Gateway Software with File Server, WiFi Protected Access, L2TP VPN and VLAN Bridging Modules
OpenRG 3.0 enables deployment of next generation residential gateways, including secure wireless access points,
NAS devices, and SOHO-grade VPN routers
San Jose Calif. - November 05, 2003 Jungo® Software Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of residential and SOHO gateway software, today announced the release of OpenRG v3.0, which includes new technology modules for broadband customer premise equipment (CPE) manufacturers. These include OpenRG's file server for storage devices, WiFi Protected Access (WPA) for 802.11a/b/g wireless access points, Layer Two Tunneling Protocol Virtual Private Networking (L2TP VPN) and Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) 802.1Q and 802.1P bridging. All modules can be remotely updated to gateways that are already deployed by Jungo's customers, and are pre-integrated into the OpenRG software suite for easy implementation in future devices.
OpenRG, which is currently deployed by CPE vendors in the U.S., Europe and Asia Pacific, provides vendors with a powerful software solution to quickly bring to market residential and SOHO gateways, cable and DSL modems, wireless access points and integrated access devices.
OpenRG's new file server module enables a residential or SOHO gateway, connected to a low-cost USB or FireWire external disk, to become an intelligent and easily managed storage device. The file server module allows home users to store and share family albums, music and videos, and SOHO users to store and share business information.
Built-in hot-plug support within the file server allows storage devices attached to an OpenRG-powered gateway to be automatically recognized and represented in OpenRG's web-based network map. In addition, comprehensive file server administration, including partition management and disk maintenance, is provided via OpenRG's web-based management.
OpenRG's WPA module is part of a broader wireless security solution recently launched in OpenRG for Wireless Gateways. WPA uses authentication and encryption methods to protect wireless LANs from hacker attacks.
The addition of OpenRG's L2TP VPN enhances Jungo's existing VPN solution, which includes support for the IPSec and PPTP standards. OpenRG's VLAN module allows more flexible network administration within SOHOs and improves the network's performance and security.
"We are diligently working on defining and implementing the next-generation technologies and services for the home and SOHO gateway market," said Derry Shribman, Jungo's co-founder and chief technology officer. "This latest release introduces some of these new technologies, and is already being integrated into a variety of our customers' devices."
