Jungo's OpenRG Deployed in Schmid Telecom's New SHDSL Voice/Data Gateway
OpenRG adds routing and security functionality for carrier grade business access devices
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 28, 2004Jungo® Software Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of Home/SOHO gateway software,
today announced that its OpenRG software platform is powering Schmid Telecom's recently deployed Pegasus Integrated Access
Device (IAD). The Pegasus IAD is an SHDSL access device for broadband data access and multi-channel voice
transmission on one single copper wire pair. The IAD includes an integrated router to allow it to behave as a fully
managed standalone small-medium-enterprise (SME) access device, delivering voice and data services.
"Schmid Telecom sought to provide carriers with a unique broadband access solution for delivering
a wide range of applications and services for the rapidly growing SME environment," said Peter
Schelbert, VP Innovation Center Access Network Systems of Schmid Telecom. "By integrating Jungo's
OpenRG we were able to provide our customers with business level routing and security functionality
while significantly improving our time-to-market. Jungo's close and professional support during the
development process enabled us to easily customize the OpenRG software and integrate it with our
core technology."
The new Pegasus Integrated Access Device (IAD) offers multiple toll-quality voice channels and
Ethernet-based data services over a single copper pair. DSL bandwidth is dynamically shared between
voice and data to make sure available bit rate is always fully utilized while quality of service
(QoS) is guaranteed. The integrated router enables the service provider to offer business customers
an extension of routing services such as firewall and security services. The IAD uses the SHDSL
line code, which is spectrally compatible with all other DSL services. Schmid Telecom has extensive
experience in DSL solutions ensuring that the Pegasus IAD delivers the longest reach and highest
performance in industry.
Jungo's OpenRG is a scalable suite of software technologies that provides CPE vendors with
the infrastructure needed to bring residential and SOHO gateways, cable and DSL modems,
wireless access points and integrated access devices (IADs) to market faster. Schmid's
Pegasus IAD incorporates OpenRG's optimized embedded Linux distribution, communication
and routing protocols, network security (Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall), zero
configuration and advanced management modules.
"Schmid Telecom's Pegasus IAD is a unique product allowing carriers to offer their business
customers broadband access, routing, security and voice services on a single device,"
said Udi Yuhjtman, Jungo's VP Business Development. "The Pegasus IAD, powered by Jungo's
OpenRG, delivers a secure and cost-effective solution allowing carriers to service this
burgeoning market."
