USRobotics Deploy Leading CPE Based Web Filtering Solution from Jungo and
SurfControl
SurfControl's Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) Web filtering technology on
Jungo's OpenRG Home/SOHO gateway software creates powerful revenue generating
services platform for USRobotics
Congleton, UK and SAN JOSE, Calif., 19 October, 2004SurfControl
(London:SRF), the world leader in enterprise Web and e-mail filtering and Jungo
Software Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of home/SOHO gateway software,
today announced an industry first as USRobotics is deploying its Web
filtering software on the USR8200 FW/VPN Router powered by Jungo's OpenRG
home/SOHO gateway software.
The combined SurfControl/Jungo solution protects USRobotics customers from
offensive and inappropriate Internet content. It also helps small businesses
prevent lost productivity caused by unrestricted Internet access, using
SurfControl's world leading content database, which contains over 7 million
websites, held in 40 categories, representing over 1.3 billion pages in 65
languages, with 35,000 new sites being added per week.
Mike Wolf, a Senior Analyst with InStat/MDR and the author of the 'Broadband
CPE 2004: Gateways Giddy-Up While Modems Ride Into the Sunset', comments on the
service that SurfControl and Jungo can offer SOHO users: "The need for strong
content control in today's home is essential, and the logical place for that is
at the gateway. Jungo and SurfControl's partnership provides CPE
manufacturers with a ready solution that adds significant value to the
end-user."
SurfControl's content database together with Jungo's OpenRG software, offers
USRobotics a highly reliable and easy-to-use Web filtering service,
specifically designed for home and SOHO users.
According to Daryle Brown, product marketing manager, USRobotics: "Working
with Jungo to integrate SurfControl Web Filtering technology into our USR8200
Firewall/VPN/NAS appliance, allows us to provide our customers with a
state-of-the-art tool for protecting themselves and their network users from
abusive Internet content."
Requiring no complex software installation, the solution is easy to manage. No
software is needed on PCs or other terminals on the home/SOHO network, and a
user-friendly Web-based interface allows the home user or SOHO network
administrator to easily define the content allowed, both throughout the network
and on each individual terminal. With an extremely small footprint and very low
processing requirements, the new solution is easy to integrate to existing
hardware.
Yaal Eshel, Jungo's Director of Marketing said: "Jungo is committed to building
the world's most comprehensive and innovative services platform that can
continuously provide new revenue opportunities to our customers. By partnering
with SurfControl, we were able to offer USRobotics a managed service based
on the most relevant, accurate and up-to-date Web content database
available."
The Jungo-SurfControl solution is available immediately and can be remotely
uploaded to a range of broadband access devices, which are already deployed and
powered by Jungo's OpenRG software. These devices include cable and DSL modems,
wireless access points, stand-alone gateways and integrated access devices.
Nick Lamidey, Director of OEM Technology Partnerships Asia, at SurfControl
concluded: "There has been a tremendous growth in the Residential Gateway
market and as a result there is huge potential for forward thinking companies,
such as USRobotics, to take the lead in developing this growth market. Jungo
and SurfControl have come together to create a powerful joint solution that
maximizes the benefits of the combined technologies, creating a new revenue
opportunity for service providers and an enhanced services platform for the end
user. We are confident that the relationship will provide a strong basis for
continued development within the market."
