Jungo and Airgo Introduce a Production-Ready 802.11 MIMO Wireless Design for the Home and Office Gateway Market

May 3, 2005

Newly Introduced Reference Design to be Showcased at Networld+Interop, Las Vegas, on May 3-5, 2005 in Jungo's Booth #575

Networld+Interop, LAS VEGAS, Nevada, May 3, 2005Jungo Software Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of residential, SOHO and SMB gateway software, and Airgo Networks, Inc., pioneer and world leader of MIMO (multiple input/multiple output) technology-the foundation for next generation Wi-Fi-announced today the release of a production-ready hardware and software reference design for OEMs and ODMs developing residential and office gateways with advanced 802.11 MIMO wireless networking capabilities.

Based on Jungo's software platform and Airgo Networks' True MIMO TM wireless chipset technology, the new reference design allows OEMs and ODMs to develop MIMO-enhanced, 802.11-compliant gateways with significantly improved performance and reliability-delivering a robust wireless connection and larger coverage area with the bandwidth and quality of service needed to run advanced applications such as streaming video or Voice over IP (VoIP).

Jungo's complete Linux-based gateway software platform fully supports Airgo's wireless chipset on a production ready reference platform providing OEMs all the hardware, software and documentation information needed to easily bring to market high-performance, next generation MIMO-enhanced wireless gateways. This new hardware support adds to Jungo's long list of supported reference platforms, allowing Jungo's customers to leverage pre-integrated solutions to shorten design cycles and get products to market faster.

"Jungo's OpenRG strength lies in its complete feature set and wide hardware support providing OEMs with complete software platforms for developing a wide range of networking devices," said Udi Yuhjtman, Jungo's Vice President of Business Development. " We are happy to add support for Airgo's market leading True MIMO chipset providing our customers the most advanced and innovative technologies available."

Airgo is the only company to conceive, develop and deliver products with MIMO OFDM-the core technology selected for the next generation 802.11n wireless LAN standard. MIMO OFDM has been rapidly embraced by the wireless networking market, because when properly implemented, it provides hassle free connectivity with no dead spots and an order of magnitude improvement in real world network speed that enables new applications like photo sharing, streaming high definition video, and real time, high speed, interactive gaming.

True MIMO refers to the type of MIMO technology based on spatial multiplexing as designed into all major proposals for the 802.11n standard. By leveraging multipath, reflections of a radio signal, and transmitting multiple signals in a single 20MHz radio channel, Airgo's True MIMO multiplies both data rates and reliable coverage area without using additional frequency spectrum and without causing interference with other Wi-Fi networks. True MIMO data rates up to 108Mbps and 802.11a/b/g rates up to 54Mbps are supported simultaneously in a single 802.11 radio channel that maintains international regulatory compliance. Additionally, True MIMO-based products have been shown to improve the performance when connected to conventional 802.11a/b/g products on any given network.

"Advanced MIMO wireless performance delivered in high-quality, full-featured gateways is the key to driving next-generation connectivity deep into the residential and business networking markets," said Bob Twomey, Vice President of North America Sales, Airgo Networks. "Airgo's breakthrough True MIMO technology delivers to OEMs the leading wireless networking hardware platform for gateways that provides effortless entire home coverage and the new applications support that is needed to differentiate. We are pleased that Jungo has now developed True MIMO hardware platform support for their residential gateway software, offering wireless networking OEMs another great option for True MIMO solutions."

About Airgo Networks, Inc.
The founders of Airgo Networks have pioneered a wireless communication technique known as Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). A breakthrough in wireless, MIMO OFDM has been adopted as the foundation for defining the new IEEE 802.11n standard for next generation Wi-Fi®. Airgo is first-to-market with 802.11a/b/g-compliant MIMO enhanced chipset, software and reference design solutions. Airgo's True MIMO TM technology substantially improves performance and reliability, enabling the most bandwidth-intensive applications and eliminating the need for wires at home, at work, and in public places. Founded in January 2001, the company is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, USA. Information about Airgo Networks is available at www.airgonetworks.com.
