Core Networks and Jungo Unveil First CableHome 1.1 Based, Integrated Network Management and Residential Gateway System for Cable Industry
Demonstration of system at CableLabs® Winter Conference will show management of home networking and additional broadband services over cable networks
CUPERTINO & SAN JOSE, Calif.- February 19, 2004
Core Networks, a global leader in Cable OSS solutions, and Jungo Software Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of residential/SOHO gateway software, today announced the first CableHome 1.1-based, integrated network management and residential gateway system. The solution comprises Jungo’s CableHome 1.1-based OpenRG software for residential and SOHO gateways (cable modems, secure VPN storage routers, secure wireless access points, etc.) tightly integrated with Core Networks’ CoreEnsemble, the cable industry’s first intelligent home-network management solution. With the combined systems, cable MSOs are able to provide home and SOHO users with plug-and-play solutions for home networking and other managed broadband services, creating additional revenue streams with reduced costs of implementation and management.
The solution from Core Networks and Jungo will be unveiled at CableLabs’ Winter Conference, February 23-25, 2004 in Philadelphia, showing management of home networking and additional broadband services over cable networks, using the CableHome 1.1 specification. The CableHome specification defines the management protocols required to extend additional broadband services such as Firewall protection, to residential broadband customers.
Jungo’s CableHome 1.1-based OpenRG software allows MSOs to provide subscribers with plug-and-play home networking, network security, web-filtering services for parental control and employee productivity, and additional broadband services. From the network operations center, CoreEnsemble then allows the MSO to remotely manage the residential gateway device. With the system, MSOs have granular control over home networking services, the ability to turn services on and off, control parameters of services, and obtain detailed usage statistics by device – all of which adds up to greater revenue potential. The total solution allows simple implementation of networks and other services while reducing the support costs necessary to manage them.
“By working together, adhering to the CableHome 1.1 specification, and performing exhaustive testing, Core Networks and Jungo are able to deliver a practical solution for MSOs in terms of a home networking offering,” said Craig Soderquist, CEO of Core Networks.
The guaranteed interoperability between the CoreEnsemble and OpenRG reduces the costs and complexity of integration for the operators and allows call center and back office staff to provide prompt service activation and incident resolution. The MSO is able to remotely manage and monitor the home network and generate additional revenues from value-added services while reducing support costs to deliver these services.
“Close cooperation between Core Networks and Jungo has enabled us to be first to market with a CableHome 1.1-based, integrated network management and residential gateway system that meets the growing demand for managed broadband services,” said Udi Yuhjtman, vice president of business development at Jungo. “This joint effort allows MSOs to quickly generate multiple new revenue streams from the deployment of advanced networking services.”
