IDT and Jungo Partner to Provide Innovative, Flexible Solution for ADSL Gateway Applications
Production-Ready Reference Designs Accelerate Time to Market with Comprehensive Linux-Based Software Package
SANTA CLARA, Calif – January 21, 2002
IDT (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.) (Nasdaq:IDTI),
a leading communications IC provider, and Jungo Software Technologies, Inc. today announced the availability of two reference designs that deliver cost-effective, innovative system solutions, accelerating time to market for makers of asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) residential and small office/home office (SOHO) gateways.
Jungo’s OpenRG embedded software is optimized for IDT’s RC32355 integrated communications processor, delivering a feature-rich platform that incorporates advanced system management functions to simplify the installation, management and network configuration functions associated with gateway products.
To address the variety of ADSL systems currently being deployed, IDT developed two reference designs, the 79RP351, a data-only ADSL modem optimized for system cost, and the 79RP355, a more fully-featured design for gateways and integrated access devices (IADs). Jungo’s OpenRG software is ported to both platforms and is highly scalable, allowing the software to address the unique requirements of specific end system configurations.
The availability of Jungo’s OpenRG software improves overall time to market by offering equipment manufacturers a one-stop shop for a comprehensive software package featuring network security, Internet sharing, system management, virtual private networks (VPNs), and plug-and-play home networking technology. Additionally, since the OpenRG software platform is based on a Linux operating system, customers are able to leverage broadly available industry applications, software modules or internally-developed applications that connect seamlessly to the standard environment.
“The key challenge for gateway designers is to deliver a flexible platform at a competitive system cost that can quickly adapt to the changing requirements of this emerging market,” said Jean-Charles Bouzigues, business development manager for IDT’s Internetworking Products Division. “We feel that Jungo’s OpenRG software best addresses these needs and, in addition, offers significant capabilities to end users including system installation, configuration and network management that will become increasingly important as total cost of ownership emerges as a key challenge.”
“The technology collaboration between IDT and Jungo provides an integrated, robust and comprehensive solution at a compelling price point,” said Ofer Vilenski, Jungo Software Technology’s president and CEO. “The jointly developed reference design takes the best of IDT’s silicon and pairs it with our customized software solution to deliver a higher level of overall system functionality.”
IDT’s RC32355 Integrated Communications Processor
The RC32355 integrated communications processor is optimized to address system bandwidth needs with an unprecedented combination of performance, flexibility and integration. Targeted at the customer premise equipment (CPE) market, the RC32355 is supported by complementary application software and development tools from market leaders to provide a complete hardware and software solution for designers of gateway system equipment.
With the introduction of the RC32355, IDT was the first company to successfully integrate ATM, Ethernet, USB and telephony interfaces with a high-performance microprocessor core, while maintaining concurrent wire speed on all interfaces and offering increased flexibility to meet the emerging system requirements of the CPE market. Furthermore, the high-performance CPU core provides a platform capable of delivering value-added capabilities and services for differentiating the end product, reducing overall system cost and improving time to market. Additional information about the RC32355 can be found on IDT’s Web site at www.idt.com/products/pages/Integrated_Processors-PL100_Sub221_Dev483.html.
Jungo’s OpenRG Software
Jungo’s OpenRG software is a specialized Linux-based operating system that enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to bring broadband CPE, such as residential gateways, SOHO gateways and IADs to market quickly. The software infrastructure features highly integrated applications and services such as network security via a stateful inspection firewall, Internet Sharing, Virtual Private Network (VPN) support and ‘plug and play’ home networking that includes HomePNA, wireless LAN 802.11b and Bluetooth. The OpenRG software also contains remote upgrading capabilities and ATM (PPPoA, PPPoE, bridged/routed Ethernet over ATM) and TCP/IP protocol stacks.
Pricing and Availability
The 79RP351 and 79RP355 platforms are available today and priced individually at $2500 and $4500 respectively. Additional information about the reference designs can be obtained by contacting IDT at 800/345-7015.
