Network Hardware Access Agent

New technology enables to remote-access to hardware, enabling many new applications such as remote diagnostics, remote operation, and remote development

Installing Jungo's "Remote Hardware Access" agent on a network enabled computer, enables full access to any of its peripherals and hardware components from anywhere in the network. This new technology can be used in conjunction with Jungo's driver tools or as a stand-alone product for any of the following applications:

  • Embedded system development.
  • Remote driver development.
  • Remote debugging.
  • Hardware inventory control.
  • Help desk services.
  • Theft prevention.
  • E-support for remote hardware.

The Network Access technology developed by Jungo, enables remote access to any peripheral hardware through a network connection. Using this new technology, any target system hardware can be scanned and peripheral hardware can be detected and tested through the network. This technology also enables remote driver development capabilities for the target hardware and remote debugging capabilities for the device driver code.

The hardware debugger which runs on the host machine, displays the list of the Plug and Play cards and devices that are connected to the target machine. Users can then test their ISA / ISA PnP / PCI / CompactPCI cards, including checking the PCI configuration registers of the card, writing and reading to and from I/O mapped ranges and memory mapped ranges, "listening" to interrupts and defining and testing the card's registers. USB devices can be communicated with as well, by showing the device different configurations, writing and reading to and from the device's pipes and sending set-up packets to the control pipe.

The Remote Hardware Access Technology is also integrated into WinDriver - Jungo's successful device driver development product line. Hence, device driver developers can now use the powerful features that WinDriver provides, to develop drivers for remote hardware, and to develop drivers that run through the network.

Target Markets
The new technology enables ample range of implementations and uses:

  • Driver Developers

    • Embedded systems driver development: When developing drivers for a 'headless' embedded system, use the remote agent for diagnostics and code generation for the hardware through the network.

    • Remote Development: Use the Remote Access Technology to write drivers for hardware, which is located in a different geographical region.

    • Remote Driver Debugging: debug your driver, step by step, even when the hardware is located at the customer's site. Remotely trace the activities performed by your driver in the kernel.
  • Enterprise Management

    • Hardware Inventory: Monitor all the hardware devices in the organization, using graphical user interface.

    • Help Desk: Test and diagnose the hardware from one central location to solve problems, such as non-matching drivers, malfunctioning hardware devices etc.

    • Theft Prevention: Follow the hardware in the company, check your inventory and trace movement of hardware among computers in your company.
  • Embedded System Diagnostics and development

    • Detect and test the hardware plugged into the embedded system from your host machine.

    • No need to move cards from the embedded system to the development machine.

    • No need to use special adapters and converters.
  • Hardware Vendors

    • Provide your customers with electronic support: Fix bugs and solve problems from your development center, without sending teams to distant locations.

  • Outsourcing Activities

    • Carry out outsourcing projects for customers all over the world.
    • Develop the code from your development center for the customer's hardware in the target location.

Benefits

  • Short time to market: Use Remote WinDriver to fast-develop your device driver for any target hardware, located anywhere in the world.
  • Cost saving: No need to move the hardware or to send developers to different locations around the world.
  • Time saving: all operations can be done immediately from one central location.
  • Cross Platform support: enables access to hardware on Windows 9x, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Linux, Solaris, Windows NT Embedded, Windows CE and VxWorks.
  • Broad customer base: enabling support to customers in different geographical region.
  • Ideal for development of device drivers for Embedded Systems.

Limitations of Remote WinDriver:
Remote WinDriver is currently not cross-endian compatible, for example remote WinDriver will work in these cases:

  • Host(OS): SPARC(Solaris)                            Target: PPC
  • Host(OS): x86(Solaris, Linux,Windows)      Target: x86
But will not work, for example, in these cases:
  • Host(OS): x86 (Solaris, Linux,Windows)    Target: PPC
  • Host(OS): SPARC(Solaris)                           Target: x86
