Typically, these devices need to communicate with a host computer, for the purpose of periodic data downloading,
continuous data flow, firmware updates or embedded software feedbacks.
Historically the T&M device communicated with the host application via serial interface,
Ethernet and Bluetooth. This compelled manufacturers to incorporate several different communication ports on
the device, sometimes used for the same purpose. On the other hand, modern devices are getting smaller and more portable,
causing a need for minimalist, economical and convenient design.
USB has become the de-facto solution for such cases, enabling high-speed data transfer rates,
while being compatible with every common operating system. Manufacturers can redesign their devices to
include all communication tasks using a single USB port which support several communication formats.
To eliminate the need to re-develop or update the end users' existing applications,
DriverCore can be used to expose any USB peripheral to a host operating system in various formats and protocols,
including serial interface (Virtual COM port), Ethernet, Infrared and Bluetooth (via the Object Exchange Protocol), and more.
